As a forum for pooling ideas on issues relating to international arbitration and other forms of dispute
resolution, the Commission aims to:

- draft and amend Rules of Arbitration, ADR, expertise, dispute boards and other forms of dispute resolution;

- study the juridical and other aspects of arbitration and other modes of settlement of disputes of an international business nature and examine them in view of current developments and produce raports, guidelines or best practices;

- promote the various ICC dispute resolution services around the world. 


- Complete the study of the role that parties and their in-house counsel can play in improving the time and cost efficiency of international arbitration proceedings.

- Revise the ICC ADR, Expertise and Dispute Board Rules.

- Examine the criteria that arbitrators may take into account in allocating the costs of the arbitration.


ADR services of ICC Bulgaria

As of January 1, 2018, a Nominations Commission within the National Committee has been set up with its main functions being as follows:

  • Nominating prospective arbitrators upon requests of the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration (ICC Court)
  • Nominating prospective mediators and experts upon requests of the Secretariat of the ICC Court
  • Nominating prospective arbitrators, mediators and experts upon third persons' request addressed to the National Committee

The Nominations Commission may as well perform other functions related to the nomination of arbitrators, mediators and experts, including by explicit assignment of the Management Board or the General Meeting of the National Committee.
The Nominations Commission consists of the following members:

  • Mr. Metodi Baykushev (ex officio member) - Secretary General of the National Committee
  • Mr. Dimitar Smilenov (ex officio member) - Bulgarian representative at the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce
  • A member and a substitute who are to be elected by the Management Board of the National Committee - their names will be promptly announced after their election
